Dr. Adena Hicks is a double board-certified Family Medicine and Lifestyle Medicine physician who provides comprehensive, evidence-based primary care with an emphasis on prevention, patient education, and collaborative decision-making. She believes excellent medical care begins with patients feeling comfortable being honest about their lives, their concerns, and what matters to them.
Her clinical interests include preventive care, chronic disease management, sexual and reproductive health, lifestyle medicine, and helping patients navigate health concerns with practical, evidence-based guidance. Dr. Hicks enjoys the diagnostic process and takes time to help patients understand not only what is happening with their health, but why—and what their options are moving forward.
Dr. Hicks is particularly committed to creating a welcoming, affirming, and judgment-free environment for patients who have not always felt comfortable or understood in traditional healthcare settings. She welcomes LGBTQIA+ patients and provides open, medically informed conversations about sexual health, gender and sexuality, diverse relationship and family structures, and sexual practices without assumptions or judgment. Patients are encouraged to bring their whole selves to the exam room, including the questions they may have been hesitant to ask elsewhere.
Her approach is sex-positive, inclusive, and grounded in evidence rather than stigma. Whether discussing STI prevention and testing, contraception, sexual function, gender-affirming healthcare, relationship structures, or other sensitive concerns, Dr. Hicks prioritizes informed decision-making, harm reduction, confidentiality, and respect for each patient’s individual goals and values.
As a Lifestyle Medicine physician, she also considers the broader context of health—including nutrition, movement, sleep, stress, social connection, access, and affordability. Her goal is to combine high-quality conventional medicine with realistic prevention strategies that fit into patients’ actual lives.
Dr. Hicks earned her medical degree from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine and completed her Family Medicine residency at Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center. She also holds a Master of Public Health in Urban Health Disparities and is board certified by both the American Board of Family Medicine and the American Board of Lifestyle Medicine.
Above all, Dr. Hicks wants her patients to know that there are very few things they cannot talk to their doctor about. Her exam room is a place for curiosity, questions, evidence, and honest conversation—not judgment.
